I am thinking about doing my writing project on black soldiers in the U.S. military. I have always been very interested in the Civil Rights Movement and the journey of racial segregation and discrimination in America, and black military involvement is a key part of that.
I can use the book “Taps for a Jim Crow Army,” which contains letters from black soldiers to government and nongovernment officials expressing their feelings about the inequality and mistreatment they were experiencing in the military.
Another book I found is called “Half American: The Epic Story of African Americans Fighting World War II at Home and Abroad,” which tells the ignored and forgotten stories of black soldiers and regimens.
I can also use websites such as the National WWII Museum for information on how black Americans served in the military and what kind of treatment they endured.
